Looking for office space

June 26th, 2007 | Posted in Freelancing | 5 Comments

Many years of working from the same room has taken its toll.

I am on the lookout for any office space in the north of Leicester. Ideally, a desk in an open plan office which I could lease.

If you know of anywhere, or have space yourself then let me know.

So why has it taken it’s toll? Is it because it’s at home? Because it’s small? Because it’s not got a nice view? :) It is just that you’ve had enough of being in the same space without moving?

I’m interested because I’m currently designing my house (which I plan to start building in the next few months) and working from home is something that I plan to do a lot of. The current version of the plan has the study facing one of the nicest views I can get from my block (overlooking the lake and hills). The study is a fairly large room, and while it’s secluded enough for me to get my work done it’s still part of the general living area of the house so I can be involved with things at the same time.

So, what exactly is it about the room that has forced you to look elsewhere?

    Cheers :)

Building my own is something i would love to do. Land here is hard to come by. Seems that you have to be ahead of the pack in securing land. The pack being building firms and developers.

The reason is that my entire life is a blurry mess of family and work. I cannot see the separation anymore. As a result my head is in a permanent state of work.
Also, i am finding it harder and harder to focus. Which, when solving complex issues, is a must.

I want to put back that separation which is why i need to work elsewhere.

If i were you, i would build an office away from the house and leave the two separate. In the long run you will be glad. The ideal solution for me would be to have one of those shed type offices at the bottom of the garden. Something which i will probably do in the next house.

It can be a problem, I’ve noticed it after only working from home for a few months. However do not forget how bad commuter traffic is.

Maybe do a very short term lease, as being back in heavy traffic morning and night may make you think again.

(If your after land let me know…)

A short term lease just to remind me will do. Even rent a desk in an open plan office. Tried Googling, couldn’t find anything.

Out of curiosity, do a search for north leicester Rob, how many plots are available?

I have thought long and hard about the home office, and where I want it to be. To be honest, I’d prefer to have it separate from the house as well. That gives me the ability to “go to work” and “go home from work” every day. That’s something that will come down the track when I’ve paid off a bit more of the mortgage on the place :) For now, an ample-sized study inside the house will have to do. Thankfully there’s plenty of space on the block to shove a separate office down the track, and then the time (money) comes that’s exactly what I’ll do.
